Flying Squirrel

I was writing about Pearl Bailey  & Black History month yesterday - another African American zooms to superstardom in Summer Olympics. Congratulations to Gabby Douglas for winning the Gymnastic Gold with a 62.232 points, the first African American to capture a gold in gymnastics in women-all-around. The 4'11", 98 pounder soared in air and into Olympic history ,captivated the audience & became known as the Flying Squirrel. She said, "I just told myself, Believe. Don't fear, just believe."

Marketing analysts predicted Gabby , an unknown  catapulted into celebrity status  will also hit gold for endorsing products. Usually corporations are looking for gold medalists  who excel in gymnastics and swimming.

Bouquets to Flying Squirrel for a Breaking Barrier Moment

Thanks Gabby Douglas for showing  folks who used to be marginalized are taking the center stage. Gabby wasn't the favorite to win the gold.

Back to Kalligraphia: Calligraphy isn't only European scripts (Italic,Uncial, Roman,Carolingian, Gothic et al)  but encompasses  all kinds of scripts such as Arabic,Asian, Middle East, Russian, African . I saw comments in the guest book asking for Arabic, Aramaic, Asian script too.

A Happy Birthday (August 2) to a wonderful lady Sandy Sanches. God bless you always. I remember you giving me a ride to BART after the Fort Mason calligraphy classes. Thank you very much.
